What's your worst West Ham memory?
There are many, of course, but for me sitting in a McDonalds car park on a cold and rainy May afternoon in Manchester in 2004, listening to the radio and hearing the Hammers go down and Steve Bruce rejoicing about it ranks high. What an awful day that was.

Charlton 4-2
Insisted that I would only go to my in laws for new year as long as someone drove me back for Charlton away. Got back as far as Woolwich- game called off-waterlogged pitch.
3 weeks later... Glen Johnson debut and the "we need a new back four" chant.

As has been said, there's so many!

Back in the Greenwood era, we were playing Chelsea away. It had been raining heavily for days & on the morning of the match (it was a Saturday, as they only played Saturdays or midweek back then!) there was an absolute deluge

Me & my mate were traveling down by tube from north London where I lived then

Various supporters of other clubs were piling on to the train as plenty of matches had been rained off
It was all very friendly though as all the rain had dampened everyones enthusiasm
We got chatting to a large group of Man.City fans whose game against Spurs (I think/) had been postponed after they'd traveled all the way down

They had all decided to come & support us in the circumstances (& were very complimentary about our style of football & what great players we had & how we seemed to underachieve etc)

From there on it went steeply downhill

We arrived at Chelsea's shithole of a ground, exposed to all the elements (it was still pissing down!)

The team was announced on the tannoy

Greenwood fielded a bunch of kids (sound familiar?) as we had an important cup game coming up. It might possibly have been a young Trevor Brooking's debut

The pitch was a mud heap

Men against boys

We lost heavily (5-0) I think

We trudged back to the tube station, wet through, not only humiliated but humiliated in front of supporters from several other clubs

It was a bad day!

Aside from the numerous relegations, Everton away, late 90's.
Drove up there with a mate in a batterd Citroen. Pissed it down the whole way, and the windscreen wiper broke. No sat navs/smart phones so just carried on in the slow lane praying we wouldn't rear end anyone.
Got there and couldn't find anywhere to park, eventually found a spot we thought was ok god knows how far from the ground.
Ran there in the pissing rain, got drenched, we were 1 down already.
Our spot was a restricted view and strained our necks watching us concede another 4 or 5. Think it was 6 nil in the end.
Couldn't find the car for fucking ages, it's still belting down. Eventually got to it and had a fucking parking ticket.
Then drove the wrong way out of Liverpool for about 30mins (windscreen wiper still broken) before we realised and turned around. Got home about 11/12am.

Shit fucking day!

Tough call- sifting through many TBH!

One that sticks is watching a poor cup game against Notts Co (I think) and watching Rufus Brevett in possibly his first game back after his big injury and thinking that all of his pace had gone...poor sod, and I thought he was a really intelligent player too. Sodding West Ham curse!

I have some good memories of Fulham as well. I always remember the people near the top of the away stand singing at the bloke in difficulty in his boat on the river, 'You're gonna sink in a minute, sink in a minute etc'.

Way too many, one in particular, losing to Oldham 6-0 in League Cup semi final, 14th Feb 1990

St Valentines day massacre

Play off final against Palace is up there for me. In the 49th and most important league game of the season we just didn't turn up on the day. Pard's substitutions when needing a goal were crazy.
Remember walking back to our minibus after the game listening to some fans who were looking forward to a trip to Plymouth - incredible. Hardly spoke on the journey home and spent the following day face down on the sofa and refused to speak to anybody.

The cup final was a killer, still can't watch 'that' goal but at least it was a performance to be proud of despite the heartbreak.

Mansfield away in the cup 3-0.
Not for the shifty performance was used to that it was that the game was called off about five times Three times I was on my way up there only to hear on the radio that it had been postponed.
When we finally played it we were abysmal.
That match cost me a fortune.

10326 for a league home game

Re: What's your worst West Ham memory?
pretty much all of 91-92

start of 92-93 was grim with less than 15000 in the ground every week and less than 12000 on numerous occasions

Re: What's your worst West Ham memory?
Strangely I've probably steeled myself to the inevitable defeats over the years so I'd say it was when my single share got taken back from me (at the Icelandic buyout?), I was fcking gutted and angry and still am. I know my share was only 0.0000001 % of the club probably, but it was mine you know?

Also, strangely, I was properly gutted when Joe Cole left. I mean, I wasn't a fanboy or anything but it just seemed he was `our` player.

Bungo - Fulham away is a terrible place. I can't remember too many times where we really needed a result, and we didn't get it there in the most horrible of ways

Re: What's your worst West Ham memory?
The most recent one I really hated was away at Fulham on New Years Day in 2014.

It pissed down hard all day. Nolan was sent off (deservedly) at 1-1, and I just knew we'd ultimately lose it (we did).

I went home about half time as I was not enjoying it at all.

Probably OLDHAM

But there have been so many over the years and most have been mentioned here

Losing Bobby Moore was a tearful time :-(
